It felt so fitting to greet 2023 with a Celtic cross and a fresh Smith Rider Waite deck.

I see my doubts about pursuing the next cycle of my life, and grief about what I'll be leaving behind. The Emperor asks, wouldn't it be more comfortable to stay in the same place? The 7 of Cups says, look at all the material wealth, comfort, and status you'd be giving up!

But I can't ignore my hopes for a better life, far away from the hustle and homophobia and xenophobia of this soulless place. When I see how much I've grown - and how much I've yet to grow this year - I feel confident about staying the course and finding the right way out of here.

Hi friends, it's been a while. I felt little desire to touch my cards in over a year, and I now understand that I needed to live and gain wisdom in "the real world" first. Without this, my relationship with the tarot would have remained superficial and ego-driven, and I wouldn't have unlocked its ability to help me heal and understand myself.

The Lovers year has been a period of tremendous growth and self-knowledge. Among other things, I learned that much of my suffering was due to my head and my heart working against each other instead of together. I discovered that the love and strength I sought in others was always in me all along. For the first time in years, I know that I am enough. And I am ready to close this cycle of my life and leap into the next - once I spend an entire 2023 preparing for it, that is.

I hope this year has treated you well; and if it hasn't, I hope you have had enough warmth, comfort, and support to see you through. ❤️

⚔️ 𝗛𝗶𝗴𝗵𝗹𝗶𝗴𝗵𝘁𝘀 𝗳𝗿𝗼𝗺 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗦𝘂𝗶𝘁 𝗼𝗳 𝗦𝘄𝗼𝗿𝗱𝘀

The past week was heavy with sword energy from @lionharts Suit Challenge! Some highlights:

𝗦𝗼𝗺𝗲𝘁𝗵𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗜’𝗺 𝗮𝘀𝗸𝗲𝗱 𝘁𝗼 𝗵𝗲𝗲𝗱: 𝗧𝗲𝗺𝗽𝗲𝗿𝗮𝗻𝗰𝗲

I’m advised to consider my words before speaking (or firing off emails). Pausing helps me gain a balanced perspective, neutralizes my language, and stops me from taking out unprocessed feelings on others. It also keeps me from putting fires out with more force than needed; heat and water create steam, which can burn just as badly as flames.

𝗪𝗵𝗮𝘁 𝘄𝗮𝘆 𝗶𝘀 𝗺𝘆 𝗰𝘂𝗿𝗿𝗲𝗻𝘁 𝗲𝗻𝗲𝗿𝗴𝘆 𝗵𝗶𝗻𝗱𝗲𝗿𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗺𝘆 𝗴𝗿𝗼𝘄𝘁𝗵: 𝗔𝗰𝗲 𝗼𝗳 𝗦𝘄𝗼𝗿𝗱𝘀

We don't usually see Aces as hindering growth, so I love that I got this. The hands grip the blade so tightly that they’re bleeding, which shows that inspiration can be damaging when they become obsessions. Fixating on future plans won’t get me anywhere if I fail to recognize present-day opportunities and insights that take me closer to my goal.

This week, I had a flash of inspiration for my Singapore exit plan. It’s frightening and risky and I can’t stop thinking about it. I keep consciously stopping myself from ruminating on the how’s and why’s of this plan, so I can focus on work and the limited time I spend with my partner and friends.

𝗠𝘆 𝗹𝗲𝘀𝘀𝗼𝗻 𝗳𝗿𝗼𝗺 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗹𝗮𝘀𝘁 𝟱 𝗱𝗮𝘆𝘀: 𝗧𝗵𝗲 𝗠𝗼𝗼𝗻

I was drawn to 2 things about this busy Moon: the half-demolished towers, and the “crayfish” in the water. If The Star is where you heal from Tower energy, The Moon is where early ideas about rebuilding are born. There’s no clear answer yet, other than knowing that you must leave your natural habitat and go where you’ve never been before.

I see myself in the “crayfish”, still in a comfortable and familiar environment, but building new skills and capabilities essential to my exit plan. Advice from friends and mentors are key to developing this plan and evolving myself, so I can be ready to leave when the time comes.

🌞 𝗠𝗶𝗱-𝗠𝗼𝗻𝘁𝗵 𝗖𝗵𝗲𝗰𝗸 𝗜𝗻

Some highlights from last week’s @lionharts Suits Challenge pulls:

𝗪𝗵𝗮𝘁 𝗰𝗮𝗻 𝗵𝗲𝗹𝗽 𝗺𝗲 𝗺𝗮𝗸𝗲 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗺𝗼𝘀𝘁 𝗼𝗳 𝗺𝘆 𝗳𝗲𝗲𝗹𝗶𝗻𝗴𝘀: 𝗧𝗵𝗲 𝗛𝗮𝗻𝗴𝗲𝗱 𝗠𝗮𝗻

I can choose to let my feelings dictate my actions, or I can gently acknowledge my anxieties around work and friendships, then do something about it. Animal friends are hovering around this Hanged Man, which hints that the support I want is available - but only if I free myself from whatever is keeping me from reaching out.

𝗦𝗼𝗺𝗲𝘁𝗵𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗜’𝗺 𝗮𝘀𝗸𝗲𝗱 𝘁𝗼 𝗿𝗲𝗳𝗹𝗲𝗰𝘁 𝗼𝗻: 𝟭𝟬 𝗼𝗳 𝗖𝘂𝗽𝘀

I had a feeling I’d pull this card, and I was right! I’ve been doing lots of thinking about the people in my life, the people I’ve let go of, and all the ways I could have been a better friend, colleague, or romantic partner.

The 10 of Cups asks me: what can I do to create the friendships I want? Which actions, beliefs or attitudes have helped me or prevented me from doing so? I spent an hour journaling what I want out of friendship and what I want out of my work relationships; what I can do to be a better friend to others; and how I want others to treat me. (Thankfully, I have the romantic relationship sorted out!)

𝗠𝘆 𝗹𝗲𝘀𝘀𝗼𝗻 𝗳𝗼𝗿 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗹𝗮𝘀𝘁 𝟱 𝗱𝗮𝘆𝘀: 𝗧𝗵𝗲 𝗦𝘂𝗻

My intuition must’ve been on fire that day - I also correctly guessed I’d get The Sun for this. The abundance of eyes tells me that I’ve learned to see what kind of relationships I want, and how I might achieve them. I read somewhere that intuition happens through the eyes and with the hands; this clarity of vision was only made possible because I trusted my gut about this tarot-journaling self-discovery process!
